Feeling Stuck? The Simple Foot Point to Get Unstuck
How a quiet winter moment led me to an unexpected shift—and how you can use the Great Rushing point to release tension and restore flow
Feeling Stuck? How the Supreme Rushing Energy Point Can Help You Flow Again
Winter still has us bundled up in its quiet, cozy embrace—but can you feel it? The days are stretching a little longer, the air carries a whisper of change, and beneath the surface, something is stirring.
This in-between moment—the hush before movement—has always fascinated me. It’s when stillness starts to hum with life again, subtle but undeniable. In Chinese Medicine, this shift marks the early stirring of Wood energy—the force of growth, expansion, and renewal. But nature doesn’t rush from one season to the next, and neither do we.
That’s why late winter can feel like a mix of everything at once—stillness and movement, rest and restlessness. One day, we feel clear and ready; the next, it’s like wading through molasses. Our drive to grow, create, and move starts to stir—but if energy has nowhere to go, it builds up, leading to frustration, irritability, or even anger—like a pressure valve with no release.
Just like the frozen landscape outside, where buds are already stirring unseen, we can feel that same energy within—the Wood element storing up, preparing to rise.
And funny enough, I felt this exact tension in my own body just the other day.
The Moment I Felt It
I was sitting at my computer, staring out the window at the frozen landscape, watching the snow and ice still clinging on, wondering, when is this ice finally going to melt here in Massachusetts? Everything outside was frozen, locked in winter’s quiet stillness—and I realized I felt the same way, as if I, too, were waiting for the right moment to thaw, feeling slightly restless.
At some point, without even realizing it, I shifted in my chair and rested the heel of my right foot on the Great Rushing point of my left foot. I must have sat there like that for a while, listening to the birds outside. And then—something shifted. It was subtle but undeniable, like a weight lifting or a door unlocking inside me. I felt a gentle release, a little spark of energy waking up. And in that moment, the idea for this post surfaced—kind of like the first signs of spring pushing up through the frost.
Over the years, I’ve learned that these subtle moments—ones that feel like mere coincidences or just fleeting sensations—are actually not coincidences at all. They are confirmations of the wisdom of the seasons, or the natural intelligence of Qi in motion—reminding us that just like nature, we are meant to shift, flow, and awaken at the right time.
But we have to notice it.
If we dismiss these moments, they pass us by. The more we tune in, the more we recognize them—not as random, but as part of a greater rhythm. And when we connect with that rhythm, we begin to align with the deeper flow of life itself.
A Simple Shift: Tapping Into Flow
One thing that helps in those stuck moments? Activating the Great Rushing point—an energy gateway between stagnation and flow. It sits on the top of your foot, between the big toe and second toe, about an inch up from the webbing.
You don’t need a complicated technique—just a simple shift in position, like resting your opposite heel on the point as I did, or gently pressing into it with your fingers. Even standing and slowly lifting onto your tiptoes can encourage energy to rise.
Sometimes, that’s all it takes. A press, a breath, and suddenly, something moves.
A sense of ease.
A spark of clarity.
A slow unraveling of what felt stuck.
It might be subtle, or it might be a flood-
A Gentle Reminder: Trust Your Timing
This time of year isn’t about rushing—it’s about noticing. Maybe you feel the urge to clean, create, or shift into something new. Or maybe you’re still feeling a little stuck, caught between old patterns and new possibilities.
💛 Qi Wisdom:
Seasons don’t rush, and neither should we. Just as the first sprouts push through the soil, our energy awakens with purpose—ready to rise when the time is right.
